2019 Summer Grant Award Winner: Sandra York!

We are pleased to announce painter Sandra York as the 2019 Summer Grant Award winner! Passionate and dedicated to her craft, her work and life are one. The vastness, sunlight, brilliant color and rich cultural diversity of the Texas Rio Grande Valley shaped Sandra’s artistic vocabulary and with an architect father, the home he designed in which she lived further influences her was of seeing and painting. Following her own battle with cancer at age 34, Sandra returned to University to receive her degree in painting and was later impacted bu illness again while caring for her mother suffering with Alzheimer’s. Later she created, “The Tacia Retablos”, a body of work documenting that experience. Please find her beautiful work at sandrayork.com.

The Summer 2019 Wendy Wagner Foundation Review Committee and Board of Directors were thrilled with the number and quality of applicants for the second round of giving. Thank you for taking the time to apply. Each round we intend to expand our scope and programming to further the cause of creativity in Houston and we need your participation to make that happen!
